Now let’s talk about each of them in detail and know how they help!
I often find listening to a certain kind of song or watching a video on youtube related to meditation, this motivates me to meditate and automatically puts my mind in that zone!
1. Finding a Space:
Finding a space for meditation is not something that you do everyday. However it is one of the most important things to do before meditation. You need to find a space where you will meditate daily for about a week or a month! Than you should change if you start getting bored by the same place every day. Her is a good article on finding the best place for meditation.
A described in the above article, a space should have the following criteria fulfilled:
These are a few conditions based on which you can choose your place for meditation. It is also important to change the place periodically.
Just try it for a week, whenever you sit to meditate, take a bath before it, and don’t wear your normal clothes, instead just wear shorts and start your meditation. And then meditate without taking a bath, you will notice the difference instantly!
Most of the major distractions in the form of stickiness in skin, itching, etc will all be gone!
Know those distractions, and remove the ones that you can from the next session. Declutter yourself from these extra clothing as much as you can. This will not completely stop the distractions, but it will reduce physical distractions. Mental distractions will still be there, but leave it on meditation!
If you use guided meditation from an app then you must download it prior to meditation and then listen to it offline. However, not all the apps allow you to do that, so put your phone in the ‘Do Not Disturb’ Mode.
If you have a place where you meditate daily, and NOT DO ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES THERE, you mind will automatically start thinking about meditation once you enter that room or see the meditation corner where you meditate daily.
- The amount of light
- No distractible noises (read the above article to know more about distractible noises)
- Less to no footfall
- Closes to nature if possible

2. Take a bath:
This step might seem not worthy before meditating, but believe me, it helps a lot. By just taking a bath before a meditation session can help you not only feel clean and hygienic, but also fresh from inside and ready to plunge into meditation.Just try it for a week, whenever you sit to meditate, take a bath before it, and don’t wear your normal clothes, instead just wear shorts and start your meditation. And then meditate without taking a bath, you will notice the difference instantly!
Most of the major distractions in the form of stickiness in skin, itching, etc will all be gone!
3. Unclutter Yourself:
Once you start meditating, you will notice things that distract you. For example you wrist watch, or a necklace, or a ring.Know those distractions, and remove the ones that you can from the next session. Declutter yourself from these extra clothing as much as you can. This will not completely stop the distractions, but it will reduce physical distractions. Mental distractions will still be there, but leave it on meditation!
4. Put your phone in Flight mode:
Your phone acts as the biggest distraction for meditation. Just a simple vibration of your phone will lead you wondering what message or mail might be it. Who must have sent it at this time! This will lead you into a conversation with your monkey mind and before you know, you will start dreaming and having stories about everything! If you use guided meditation from an app then you must download it prior to meditation and then listen to it offline. However, not all the apps allow you to do that, so put your phone in the ‘Do Not Disturb’ Mode.
5. Go in the Mode of Meditation: (Preparing your Mind)
Preparing your mind for meditation is as important as preparing your body and surroundings for meditation. There are many ways to do that:If you have a place where you meditate daily, and NOT DO ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES THERE, you mind will automatically start thinking about meditation once you enter that room or see the meditation corner where you meditate daily.
Having the same time for meditation everyday also puts you in the mode of meditation automatically at that time of the day! Though be very careful in choosing your time to meditate! This can hinder your progress! Read this article to know more about the best times to meditate during a day.
