Where should you meditate to maximize the benefits?

Meditating at the right place is as important as meditating at the right time. I already made an article about when should you meditate. And here is WHERE SHOULD YOU MEDITATE!

There are a lot of good places to meditate. You can actually meditate everywhere! I keep on telling that meditation is an exercise of the brain and can be practiced practically anywhere, but to get the best results, the place where you meditate also plays an important role!

First, we will talk about the needs of meditation in terms of the surroundings, and then I will tell you some great examples where these needs are fulfilled.

So, let's get to the main topic, "Where should you meditate to maximize the benefits?"

Where should you meditate to maximize the benefits? What does a place require to meditate? And why?

  1. No Noise
  1. No Onlookers
  1. Moderate lighting

To know that, we need to get into the process of meditation! Meditation requires us to be focused on out body, or our breath, or different sensations. A good surrounding can aid in it while a bad surrounding can distract us a lot!

1. So, finding a QUIET PLACE is the key!

By a quiet place, I do not mean that find a place where there is pin drop silence. Or a confined storeroom kind of area isolated from everything!

What meditation requires is a quietness of distracting voices, and those distracting voices are talking people, or a television, or a place from where you can hear a concert playing far away!

These types of sounds can divert your attention to the happenings nearby! You will definitely get focused on what the person is conversing about, or what song is playing, and you will start to sing along in your mind, then suddenly you will tell your mind to stop, and being the monkey he is, he will never listen to you!!

On the other hand, sounds like birds chirping, a slow music (with no lyrics!!), the sound of water flowing in a river, the noise of the fan or even the traffic, do not distract you from your focus and you can meditate at these kind of places.

However, I would suggest natural sounds are the best compared to the noise of a fan or traffic! I find the nature has that ability to relax you from within!

So in conclusion, the place with sound is okay, but not the type of sound that can distract you!

 2. Another important thing a place requires to meditate is less onlookers!

Believe me, there is nothing more distracting than a couple of people passing by and eyeing on you while you are meditating!

It may not distract some of you, but it definitely distracts me! and I am not alone!
So, find a place where there is less to no footfall! This will also mean that you will here less conversations of people!

3. What about lighting?

You should preferably not meditate in very dark places, as it will make you feel sleepy. And too bright spaces are also not advisable. If you are meditating outdoors, meditate under the shadow of a tree, or you can also choose the time like early morning or sunset!

What places offer the qualities needed for meditating?

There are a few places where you can meditate that have these qualities, and I am not telling that you should not meditate anywhere but on these places. The reason for telling you the qualities a place needs to meditate was that you can find more places! (and also let me know down in the comments!)

  1. Terrace
  2. Countryside, near rivers or mountains!
  3. Gardens
  4. Temple room at home
  5. "On Road Less Travelled"

1. Terrace

Terrace is a wonderful place to meditate, especially if you have some semi open spaces on your terrace. Terrace provides the perfect conditions for meditation, as there is no footfall, it is your own private place where nobody is going to watch over you!

Another important reason is you will feel the wind at a higher altitude and definitely hear it, and with it, hear the sounds of birds chirping! This makes a wonderful setting for your mind to meditate!

You will hear very less noise of the traffic below!

2. Countryside, near rivers, on the mountains!

Countryside has usually a flowing river, or huge farms where you are the closest to nature!
There is no noise of the traffic! You can hear the strong winds. These things make your body relaxed.

You can also meditate on a hill or a small mountain; it you can get there!
Being close to the nature is the main reason here

3. Gardens, but in the morning! (or a guest room/library)

Gardens, though they are public places, but are a really great place to meditate in the early morning. And you may also find more people meditating there to motivate you!
The surrounding is perfect, even more perfect than a countryside!

Also, meditating in the morning is the best, check out this article to know more about the best time to meditate!

4. Your temple room at home

Find a place inside your house, preferably a place other than your bed, or bedroom. It can be a temple room, a balcony, a guest room, library, etc. the most important thing is that you need to find the quietest room where members of your family are seen least often.

Let’s face it, not everybody can go to the mountains and countryside to meditate, not everybody has the time to do that. So you need to find someplace inside your home where you meditate regularly.

Now the key here is to meditate there everyday and your mind will connect that place with meditation! Whenever you will enter the room, your mind will prepare itself for the upcoming meditation session. And that is the reason you should not meditate in your bedroom on your bed, it will confuse your mind whether you sleep here or meditate!
And that can make a huge difference.

Tell your family members that you would be meditating so please speak softly, and no television for some time!! (and then hope they obey you 😉)

5. “On road less travelled”

I bet there are so many places inside your own city where you can meditate and there will be no passers by looking at you, there will be beautiful places untouched by the human presence, hidden from them! Discover them, make them your own meditation retreat!

Believe me, meditating at these secret places would boost up your motivation for meditation! Just keep in mind the place should abide by the above-mentioned rules!

So, now you know, "Where should you meditate to maximize the benefits?"

Another important thing is to keep on changing your locations after certain period. This will change the routine a bit, and you will never get bored by meditation! Go meditate in the garden, if you can wake up early, stroll around the city in your free time and find places to meditate! If nothing works, just meditate in a corner of your guest room.

Keep consistent, though it's okay to take a day off, if it is getting too much! But also try to make it interesting and not let it get too much, in the first place! If you found even a little bit of valuable information, share it with your friends, who you think need to meditate the MOST! 😉 Also share it in social media. Keep meditating!
