Here are the top 5 meditation apps that have dominated the market since long and are really helpful in every way! (I have not been sponsored by any of these brands. And these reviews are without any bias!

So let's get to "Top 5 Meditation Apps in the market!"

1. Headspace (Free,Paid)

Top 5 meditation apps

Headspace is by far one of the biggest and best meditation app/website on the market right now. This is the app which led me into meditation, and probably thousands of others like me!

However, you only get a ten-day basics course for free! But they can surprise you anytime by providing you with a month free! (I had been given a free month on headspace after completing a 15-day streak. It costs about $52 or Rs. 890 per year in India.

Pros:

  • Beautiful animations to make you understand otherwise difficult topics of meditation.
  • Keeping track of your journey and streak! (believe me, streaks motivate you to do meditation)
  • The sound quality of the guided meditations is one of the best amongst all the apps.
  • There are a lot of different topics on which you can meditate! (But I think some are a bit too much in terms of meditation!)
  • There is a huge community on headspace, and it shows how many people are meditating with you at the same time! I don’t know if you get motivated by this, but I certainly do!
  • Provides mini meditations on the go.
  • You can save offline meditations.

Cons:

  • The tracking of your activities and streaks have glitches.

2. Smiling Mind (Free)

Top 5 meditation apps
This app is the best free app and is run by a nonprofit organization whose only goal is to promote meditation!

Pros:

  • It has a variety of programs (not as much as headspace) which are categorized mainly by the age group.
  • It also has a dashboard that records your total time meditated and streak like headspace.

Cons:

  • The quality of the guided meditations could have been better in comparision with headspace.

3. Simple Habit Meditation: (Free/Paid)

Top 5 meditation apps
I used simple habit for a few days only, this app is good in many ways. It has meditation teachers that guide you through your journey.

Pros:

  • If you wish to have a personal teacher to guide you through meditations and teach you, then this app is the best one for you!
  • It also has different nature sounds for unguided meditations.
  • The topics on this meditation app differ a lot from the topics on other apps like headspace and smiling mind.
  • It has a cool feature ‘Meditation on the go’ which you can use for free!

Cons:

  • The app is really costly.
  • Personally, I don’t find it as interesting and interactive as headspace.

4. Insight Timer: (Free/Paid)

Top 5 meditation apps
Insight timer is another beautiful specially for unguided meditations. It also has meditation music and podcasts. It provides a seven days free trial after which you have to pay 5 dollars a month.

Pros:

  • It consists of small talks/podcasts on a variety of topics relating to meditation.
  • It also provides courses like headspace.
  • The app has your meditation activities tracked like other apps.

Cons:

  • It is costlier than headspace (in India) while provides less variety of guided
    meditations.

5. Calm: (Free/Paid)

Top 5 meditation apps
Calm contains 100+ guided meditation, this may be a lot less than headspace but it is really good. It also provides with a 7 day free trial after which you pay sbout $52 or Rs. 3560.

Pros:

  • It has beautiful nature sounds.
  • It provides with audio scenes with different situations like sitting near a lake, or rain falling on leaves, etc.

Cons:

  • It doesn’t have a wide variety of meditations.
  • It is really costly for the value you get!
These apps, though they cost you money, but are worth the cost, if they motivate you to meditate regularly! Personally, I have used free versions of all the apps, and even more apps like tide (a really great app but could not make it to the top 5), and then finally went with Headspace paid. And it is really pushing me to meditate daily.
